QuikVue Vet Case Share-Syncope and Blindness in a Cat

06/24/25

We are glad to share a vet case study captured by QuikVue eye imaging adaptor from Dr Vet Viroux.

The examination revealed a bilateral absence of the menace response and a negative dazzle reflex, with preserved but diminished pupillary light reflexes. The pupils were mydriatic at rest. Fundoscopy showed bilateral serous retinal detachment, more severe in the right eye, and intra-retinal hemorrhages in the left eye.

Blood chemistry was unremarkable, and T4 levels were normal. Systolic blood pressure exceeded 250 mmHg, indicating severe hypertension.

Amlodipine treatment was initiated, with a clinical and blood pressure follow-up scheduled in 10 days.
